Encouraging Healthy Autonomy
Overview
Grounded strictly in individual task execution, this pillar addresses the psychological boundaries of the self to prevent the exhaustion that comes from trying to micromanage another person's life. Utilizing Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, adults and partners learn the Scaffold Method, stepping back from over-functioning or "helicoptering" to offer assistance only for the precise fraction of a task a family member cannot complete alone. By enforcing the Non-Interference Rule and practicing the "radical ignore," individuals grant each other the dignity to struggle, learn, and build resilient prefrontal cortex executive functions without constant critique.
